"Ultimate Fettle Through Martial Arts" by Sang H. Kim, Ph.D., is a great reference for whatsoever martial artist's bookshelf. Reading it, I found myself like-minded with things Kim wrote, and and so incorporating other drills into my classes. It's always good to bring in new drills and make preparation varied, and this volume provides a lot of different exercises and drills to comprise into any martial art preparation, regardless of way.

I liked that Kim explained the benefits of the drills equally well every bit how to perform them. I feel every bit an instructor, it is important to explain why you lot are having students perform certain things, and what benefit they will receive from doing what you tell them. Writing a book is no dissimilar, it's non enough to say do this, merely one needs to explain why. Kim did a skilful job of this.

The book has a short introduction regarding the quest for ultimate physical status, and what fettle really is. Curt and simple caption so a brief word on how to employ the book.

From there, the book is divided into chapters that each focus on i element of fitness. These include: Power, Speed, Perception, Coordination, Residual, Agility, Flexibility, Endurance, Accuracy, Timing, Mental Strength, Diet, Injury Prevention, and a few sample workouts at the end.

Obviously, some of these topics tin can exist explored in much greater depth than Kim had room to cover in this unmarried volume. In fact, Kim, himself, has other books that go into much greater detail on some of these topics, such as his big book on Flexibility. There are likewise books available that but focus on speed, or ability, or timing, and and then on. But what Kim did well hither was provide in i book, all these unlike components of fettle, how they related to martial arts, and how you can train for them. Certainly, you may wish to purchase resource on these components of fitness to further your study and expand your training, but to have all the elements addressed in i simple volume is nice to have for a quick reference.

Each affiliate begins with an explanation of the aspect the affiliate focuses on, and how it applies to martial arts and how yous can meliorate. The the chapter provides various grooming exercises. There ar simple explanations forth with photographs to teach these to those unfamiliar with them. Kim also includes pages that have charts to track your progress. These are pretty basic and you can copy them from the book, or blueprint your own. The important part is that information technology can be greatly beneficial to chart your progress and achieve goals you lot fix for yourself. Seeing comeback is motivating, and shows that your hard work is paying off.

It's a pretty quick book to read, and information technology touches on the diverse components of fettle y'all should exist preparation for equally a martial artist. There are enough exercises to include with your grooming to keep information technology varied, and information technology just might motivate you lot to do farther research on these topics. A very good addition to any martial artists library.
